I first of all provided Strawberry Children's Toys with a complimentary website analysis and health check, including looking at on page optimisation for the site, running a link popularity check, examining search engine saturation and verifying performance of required keywords. I also came up with some initial observations that would improve the home page based on previous retail web and marketing experience, and set out how I believed I could help the client acheive their objectives. The client was keen to take these initial findings further and commissioned me for the following; 1. to come up with a series of specific home page recommendations to help convert visitors to buying customers; 2. to deliver a number of recommendations to improve search engine optimisation, and; 3. to provide a marketing plan that would drive traffic to the site on a realistic budget. The next stage was to implement the ideas and put the plan into action. I made several changes to the home page to deliver more of a visual impact and the key challenge here was to achieve this whilst leaving the client in control of making future amendments themselves without having to call on a graphic designer or web designer.
Whilst changing the home page I also ensured I optimised it for a series of keywords I had recommended we focus on, and also optimised the rest of the site. The client was keen to take forward a number of the marketing initiatives I had recommended but also wanted my hands on involvement and expertise on others eg writing copy for the newsletter, implementing a strategy to improve search engine positions against required keywords, and devising and implementing promotional campaigns to drive more traffic to the website.
